I'm the Founder and Clinical Director of the Austin Mindfulness Center in Austin, Texas. I began a meditation practice in 2008 after working several years in a residential treatment facility for abused and neglected teens. I loved the work, but after several years of being in this high intensity environment, it began to take a toll on my stress and anxiety began to affect my work and home life. I approached mindfulness with a stress management goal more than anything else and what I learned about myself in the process was more than I ever expected. Not only did mindfulness work to reduce my stress and anxiety, it allowed me to connect with myself in a meaningful way. I now had a way to deal with painful thoughts and feelings in the service of living a purpose-filled life. This had a huge impact on how I began to conceptualize human suffering and particularly the humans who trusted me with their mental health care. I founded the Austin Mindfulness Center in 2011 in response to what I knew to be the most effective and compassionate approach to healing and to living a more vital, present centered life. I am a graduate of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course, which was founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn. I have had a regular meditation practice since 2008 and it continues to be the most essential part of my day. I use mindfulness daily in my work with my clients to alleviate anxiety, depression, and create better lives for themselves and their loved ones. Mindfulness is my passion and I hope in will also be yours, too!
