BGCSE Chemistry

The Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education is an examination that was established in 1992 having been developed in consultation with the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate (UCLES). This examination is designed to assess the achievement of at least 80-85% of the Bahamian Students on completion of five or six years of secondary level education. It will provide a broadening of opportunity for students to show what they know, understand and can do.

This preparation course is designed for candidates taking Chemistry as a single subject. You will review three years of content. The course is delivered online and includes a print workbook. The course is also assisted by an Instructor.

Exam Scheme

The BGCSE Chemistry Exam comprises of 3 written papers and a practical component.


Paper I - 1.25 hours. 30% grade weighting.
Paper I consists of 50 multiple choice questions.

Paper II - 1.30 hours. 50% grade weighting.
 Paper 2 contains a series of short-answer and structured questions. All questions must be answered.

Paper IV - 20% grade weighting. An internal assessment of practical work.


Paper III - 1.25 hours. 80% grade weighting. 
Paper 3 consists of two sections. Section A contains compulsory structured questions.  Section B consists of free-response questions allowing candidates some choice.

Paper IV - 20% grade weighting. An internal assessment of practical work.
