Hi, I’m artist and instructor, Karen Walker. I’ve been painting and teaching alcohol inks on Yupo since 2009. I love the inks for their vibrancy, fluidity, and a little bit of uncontrollability, but I also like representational painting that has a subject in mind – so my goal is planned spontaneity.
This course shares all of the techniques I use to create representational paintings with a little looseness to showcase the amazing beauty and magic of alcohol inks.
It is an independent, self-paced course that you’ll have unlimited access to – I’ve taken all of the lessons and videos and put them in one rather large course – over 80 lessons with 55 demonstrations for you to try or be inspired by to create your own beautiful works.
The course starts out with instruction on the basic techniques for spontaneity and control: flow, textures, lifting, masking, and brush and penwork. Perfect if you are a beginner (even with no painting experience) or an experienced ink artist – it will show you my techniques and be a great reference for what I’m doing in the later videos.
Free lesson: French Fountain
Free lesson: Dogwoods
These techniques are explored further in the advanced beginning section, after which there are four sections devoted to variations on a theme – flora, fauna, land and sea.
Free lesson: Dancing Koi
The course has a number of free lessons for you to check out before you enroll including one on materials (I work exclusively with alcohol inks on Yupo paper). The other lessons will give you an idea of my video style and lesson content.
