Interested in herbalism? Want to treat friends and families naturally, perhaps with things you grow in your own yard? Want to become a community herbalist or own an apothecary? A holistic practitioner of some sort wanting to add to your healing repertoire? These extended classes are for you! If you want to learn herbalism to help yourself, family, and friends (be a community herbalist) you are in luck!
This class uses the textbook Medical Herbalism by David Hoffman and the curricula encompasses:
Theories of healing and the body
Systems of the body (Anatomy, Physiology)
Health conditions and their symptoms
Herbal classification and actions in the body
Cultivation and wildcrafting
Harvesting and processing
Materia medica (learning about individual plants)
and an introduction to other overlapping systems of healing: TCM, Ayurveda, aromatherapy, homeopathy, flower essences.
The curated readings, videos, chats, and discussions online impart a ton of information and wisdom. No need to worry that you are not getting reliable information any longer (the internet can be a mixed bag)! If you are local to Columbus, Ohio, you can also attend optional field trips and do in-person work if you desire to tap into that.
The course is set up on an online forum, so to take it, you should have regular internet access. You will also need to purchase David Hoffman's Medical Herbalism book. You will also need certain supplies and items from time to time: herbs, beeswax, etc. (to make medicines and such).
This class is self paced, designed for people that have busy lives but want to learn herbalism in a comprehensive way. Once you complete a module, you move on to the next level's lessons. There are no deadlines here, just learning! While the lessons are released to you every 30 days, you can go much slower than that if you wish. You will have access to all the lessons and can catch up at any time!
Unlike many other online classes, here is no expiration date for this class, so if you are ambitious, you could complete it in 18 months. If you have lots of other obligations and can only get to lessons once a month, you can take years to complete it if you wish! This is ideal for working adults.
Designed for Busy Adults
Welcome to the most affordable way to learn community herbalism on the internet! This class will teach you "undergrad" level work on anatomy, physiology, materia medica, medicine making, and more.
This class goes a lot more in depth than Lily's People's Medicine Course. In order to work with clients and formulate things for them, you have to understand how the body works in relation to the environment as well as how all the systems are interrelated. This class has a holistic worldview and helps students "connect the dots" to become great herbalists!
Lily also teaches this class in person every two years in Columbus, Ohio (the in-person class is required to advance with her on clinical and or apothecary advanced coursework and apprenticeships). The same great curriculum that's available here is training Columbus' next generation of herbalists!

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do I have access to the course?
Forever! Once you've enrolled and paid, you'll have access to the course material for as long as you need. So devour it all as quickly as it comes or take things slow. It's your choice!
I still have a question, how can I contact you?
I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. Send me an email at email@example.com.
What's your refund and cancellation policy?
We do not refund for classes that you have already accessed, but you can cancel your membership in the course at any time (in other words, you can cancel for future payments).
What is not covered by this course?
Herbalism is a vast art and science. Herbalists with decades of hands-on experience still learn new things all the time that blow their minds (trust me).
If you have ambitions to treat others as a profession or make lots of remedies and tonics and own an apothecary, you need an in-person herb school, like Lily's Foundations of Western Herbalism in-person course. While I think this course is great for people wanting to know more and dive into how herbalism works, it’s unlikely that you will learn how to become a great herbalist simply studying by yourself online.
In person work with clients and hands-on activities with a trained herbalist is the best way to learn this trade. Online can impart a lot, but we encourage you to seek in-person learning if you wish to be an herbalist. This class was deigned for folks wanting to understand the art and science of herbalism, not necessarily for future clinicians.
Will this program overwhelm me? I have a busy life.
No. This program will not overwhelm you, because YOU set the pace of how fast you want to go. You can set it aside and come back to it anytime. But it will require some work on your part, like all rewarding things!
You will get one unit released to you each month. You can complete it all in that month, or start after a few weeks absence. It's up to you!
