Welcome to The Creative Cocoon
In this twelve week online program, you'll be part of a supportive community of artists and creatives, diving into transformative practices and processes, engaging regularly in your art-making, and building a body of work that is deeply connected to your heart and soul.
If you're not currently making art, this program will change that. And it will likely change you too.
This isn't about learning specific art techniques, but about attending to the process of making and developing a new relationship with your creativity and yourself.
In the first half of the program, you'll begin to engage in a creative commitment - a daily practice that you devise.
In the second half of the program you'll develop a creative project for launch in the last weeks.
**Beginning February 1st 2021**
Hi, I'm Michelle Morgan...
I'm a registered arts therapist, multi-modal artist, spiritual care practitioner, and community singing facilitator.
In my early twenties, I went through a horrible breakup, dropped out of university and started an apprenticeship in admin at an engineering and surveying company.
I was deeply unhappy.
I was fortunate to move into a share house with two older women, one of whom introduced me to 'The Artist's Way - a journey in creative recovery', written by Julia Cameron. The core practice of 'The Artist's Way' is to write three pages, stream of consciousness, everyday.
The writing was incredibly cathartic. I could dump all the sludge from my brain onto the page. I could give expression to my thoughts and feelings. And I began to notice that messages were coming through. For example, I wrote at least six times... 'I want to do a massage course', before I realised the truth of the statement, and then took action to make that happen.
And so my life set upon a new course. I studied healing modalities and reawakened my creative self.
Over the years, I played with writing, visual art (pencil, pastel, paint), dance, music. I was always exploring a new creative expression. The journaling became a life tool and an incredible support, particularly in times of depression and anxiety. My creativity was my link to the Mystery. It helped me to make sense of suffering, to find clarity in times of confusion, to express challenging emotions, particularly through my ongoing Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, and to self-soothe. Creativity is my deepest anchor. Creative work is healing work.
In May of 2018, during a time in my life that felt full of uncertainty and darkness, I started a daily mandala practice, and found myself in another creative initiation. I made a new mandala every day for A WHOLE YEAR!
The work I share with you now is birthed from that initiation. I am so grateful to be able to share it with you!
This program is for you if:
- You feel disconnected from your creativity and are seeking to re-ignite your creative practice
- You feel wounded, blocked, or unworthy as a creative or artist, and would love a space to gently explore what else might be possible
- If you want to engage more in creativity and produce a body of work
- You are willing to commit to your creative self, and can show up to a creative practice
- You are self-directed and self-motivated, but would love a community to work alongside and share your creative explorations with
- You are self-reflective, see creativity as part of your spirituality, and enjoy heartfelt connection with others
- You're seeking encouragement, accountability, and focus for your creative practice.
This program is not:
- A 'how to' art teaching program. I won't be teaching you specific arts techniques. There are loads of art teachers offering that kind of program.
- Going to magically fix your creative life. You'll need to make the time and put the work in.
- Individual or group therapy. While there are definitely therapeutic aspects in art making, and some of our work together will offer benefits, this is a self-directed program. It's best suited to those who have some skill in navigating their inner world and who have personal resources of self-regulation, self-motivation, and self-reflection. If you feel you need specific therapeutic support, please get in touch.
What you'll receive with your registration:
- Video content to support your creative practice
- Guided audio processes to assist you in dropping deeper
- Practice and reflection sheets to support you in integrating your learning
- Creative play invitations
- Access to the private Facebook group and a community of creatives
- 12 live online zoom check-ins with registered arts therapist, Michelle Morgan
- PLUS: You can opt-in to receive individual coaching sessions to deepen your exploration.
This course is for anyone interested in nurturing and expanding their creativity in a supportive and encouraging environment. Chelle is very present, engaging, and warm. I felt safe and comfortable sharing my process with a fabulous group of like-minded individuals. The course content was engaging, interactive, and fun and I looked forward to the weekly lessons and fortnightly check-ins. I felt supported enough to challenge myself and take more risks than I would have on my own. Upon reflection, I got a lot out of this course and I am really proud of my achievements.— A. A. Melbourne, VIC
I enrolled in Awaken your creative genius when was going through a dark period of grief and isolation.I knew somewhere deep down that I wasn’t connecting with my creative self or engaging in any creative processes on a regular basis. I needed to find a way to get back to my creative self. I chose the course because it dealt with many facets that artists face, like commitment, procrastination, stuckness, facing and getting to know the inner critic as well as finding a creative advocate to call on for support. Part of the course was about setting intentions, making a commitment to show up each day, to look at the creative process with curiosity and mindfulness at the same time trusting in the process and embracing self-care and compassion. I loved the whole structure of the course from the reflective weekly meditations and practices, to the regular zoom catchups with others participating in the course. I found it a very supportive environment and there was a real sense of community to interact with. I found it to be a very healing journey where I learned that if you make a commitment to yourself and your work, life seems to fully support you with abundance. Through participation in this course and daily engaging with the creative process, I became deeply involved with the play of life. What came from the involvement were a gift and a healing.— Sharon O'Phee, Toowoomba QLD
The Awaken Your Creative Genius Course is one of the most inspiring experience I have gone through. Michelle Morgan is the most caring and highly knowledgeable leader. She us warm, caring and creates a safe space. For someone who is not a visual artist, I came up with many art works using different media. I also got to re-explore my love of music. I recommend this course to anyone whether you think your are it are not creative. Just do it and explore. I found the zoom meetings and facebook interactions really helped me to be part of a community. For me this was an important part of helping me to engage with the course.— Mia, Fairfield, VIC

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any costs involved?
Yes. This course will be offered at $695, however this is the second run so I am offering it at a heavily discounted price of $495. As an exchange I ask your honest feedback on the course content and your testimonial (preferably with image or video testimonial).
What is the time commitment?
The course content varies from week to week. Some weeks have a couple of videos to view and some have just one. I'd set aside up to 2 hours each week to engage with the content and reflection practices. It's really up to you how long you spend on your creative practice. Some days I spend hours on one work. Other days, particularly if I'm very tired, I set an alarm and make sure I complete something in ten minutes. I encourage self care in this practice... Showing up to the page to create art every day can feel like a stretch, so make sure you're doing it in a way that feels nourishing for you.
What materials will I need?
You can create your artwork with anything... pencils, pastels, paints, collage, photography, digital art, recycled or found objects. I've made some of mine in tiny journals or on massive pieces of card. You might choose to take your inner artist shopping, or use what you have already.
I still have a question, how can I contact you?
I'm happy to answer any questions you might have. Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I think I need extra support... What do I do?
Sometimes engaging in creative process can bring up some layers of experience for healing. If you're finding that you need some extra support, I am available for individual arts therapies sessions. You can find out more at my website: www.cocooncreativeartstherapies.com.au
I'm keen! When do we begin?
This online program will begin on the 1st February 2021.
