Chip Out of Every Block

Is the chip going in or does it go out? As you look at the design, you might just see both!

An fun quilt of illusion, so simple to make, once you know how. A throw that can grow to any size you wish!

I will show you how easy this quilt is to make using simple shapes of squares and half-square triangles.  Fabric selection tips, sewing hints and design options are all included in this class.

Sign me up, I'm ready to make this amazing quilt of illusion!

  • For this class, you will need my pattern which is included in the class.  I've also added some helpful handouts that are only available in this class.

You can order my gradated fabric lines which are perfect for these blocks on my webstore here.
  • Optional: Or you can purchase a kit which will include a selection of gradated fabric for the cubes, the printed pattern AND a Value Viewer, perfect for helping you select light, medium and dark values.  Karen has an option for 3 cube fabrics in a smaller kit or 6 cube fabrics in the larger kit.  You can see details about the kits here.
  • Step by step videos mean you go at your own pace. The best part, I'm right there with you, walking you through every step of the way!
  • There is an interactive comments section for questions and answers from myself and other students.

Are you ready to become a master of illusion??  You can DO THIS!

You will learn

  • How to select the right fabrics and value for your blocks
  • Sewing hints and precise piecing tips
  • How to determine a 1/4" seam for your machine
  • Design ideas

How long do I have access to the course?

Once you've enrolled and paid, you'll have access to the course. Devour it all in one weekend or take things slow. It's your choice! You will have access through December 2022.

Do I need any special supplies or fancy sewing machine?

You won't need anything other than your normal piecing supplies. As long as your sewing machine can do an accurate 1/4" seam, that is all you need.

I will even show you several ways to determine your perfect 1/4" so you can set it up on your machine.

Will you supply a link to purchase your gradated fabrics?

Absolutely! I will post a link to purchase my gradated fabric line as well as my Value Viewer tool in the supply list.

You can use your stash, shop at your local quilt shop or purchase from my online store. . . or do a combination of all three!

How much interaction will I have with Karen?

Each lesson has a comments section where students' questions and answers are readily available and/or you can ask additional questions. Karen will post responses every few days to questions - this way answers benefit everyone in the course!

Is the content downloadable?

The lessons are not downloadable, but you can access them anywhere you have an internet connection.

Is the class refundable?

No, all content is available as soon as you purchase the class so refunds are not possible

I still have a question, how can I contact you?

I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. Send me an email at

I loved my class. Learned a little more about optical illusions and as always I love working with Karen. She is a great teacher and is very professional. I would definitely take another class with Karen.
Student from Quilt University

I enjoyed every one of the four classes that I took with you. There was a "light bulb moment" for me in each one of the classes Thanks again for "opening my eyes" to a new dimension in my quilting.

Karen, just wanted you to know that several of us were discussing last night's meeting and how we all felt you are one of the best speakers we have had. Specifically, interesting to listen to, taught without being pedantic, fun, very well prepared, knew when to stop, personable, and GREAT ideas with the illusions.
Faith from Friendship Quilters

I attended your class yesterday at the Freeport (NY) Rec. I would like to thank you for a wonderful experience. I have taken quite a few classes, but this was the first time, after a class, my excitement kept me up all nite (till 6am) sewing.
