Explore watercolours for beginners and improvers

Hello and welcome to my online watercolour course for beginners and improvers. I am a professional artist and teacher and have taught many hundreds of students of all ages in workshops and art classes over the last ten years. From my first gift of watercolour paints at the age of ten, throughout my career as an Architect I have always painted with watercolours and enjoyed discovering the enormous possibilities with different watercolour techniques in a diverse range of subjects. I teach thriving classes in and around Cambridge and people come to me looking for a fun, relaxing and informative classes.  I really enjoy sharing the techniques that I have learnt over the years and seeing the progress of my students as they flourish and share their enjoyment of watercolour painting.

If you have never painted watercolours, have been painting for a short time or want to improve your techniques this course is a great start to teach you all the fundamental techniques of pure watercolours. It will give you the confidence to control the application of this exciting medium with projects to put that learning into finished paintings. Projects have videos, downloadable photos, sketches and material lists so you can paint along with me. The videos cover, how to set up your painting area, equipment needed, stretching paper, watercolour techniques, applying masking fluid and how to use tone. This course will give you the confidence to apply watercolour so you have all the techniques at your fingertips.

"I had a great time discovering new techniques from the online course to use in my own watercolour paintings. I liked Denise’s step by step approach, being introduced to some unfamiliar materials and found her project themes inspiring. As well as a video lesson, Denise provides lots of supporting information including additional photos, cheat sheets and suggested colour mixing palettes. Denise is such a generous tutor who is happy to share the knowledge and experience she has with her students.' Mandy. May 2020

'Thank you Denise for very stimulating lessons. The videos are clear, informative and engaging and they gave me the confidence to try new techniques and experiment with different materials. I loved being creative with the tracing paper and sticks, things I would have never tried before!’ Katie. May 2020

'This was a wonderful first lesson, thank you Denise. Your videos are beautifully done, clear & precise. It was great to be able to rewind & rewatch sections as my painting progressed. It reminded me of the Daises Workshop I did with you last year. Thank you too to James for the delightful music, so calm & relaxing'. Janet. May 2020
