As I was searching for a reference photo for this demonstration video, I looked out the window and saw the beautiful dogwoods. As a North Carolinian, I've always wanted to paint dogwoods, our state flower. This time of year is so exciting, with blossoms and leaves magically appearing! Everyday, there is something new and beautiful!
This is a straightforward alcohol ink painting that would make a nice final project in the Beginning Class - the blossoms and branches were masked entirely and the background ink layer randomly added.
After removing the masking fluid, the flowers are colored in (cool peri and eggplant used to tone the white petals) and some texturing is added to the background. A little bit of touch up work and voila! Dogwoods!
