Hi there! I'm Kena Tangi Dorsey, Quilt Artist, Teacher, Designer and Owner of Kena Quilt Studio and I'm excited to bring to you a class workshop called, "Garden Window" where I teach a basic introduction to raw edge appliqué using a fun and easy technique that I love using when making my own appliqué quilts!
This on-demand workshop, teaches the basic foundations and principles of raw-edge appliqué in simple and easy-to-follow demonstrations, and then encourages you to jump in and try using the included template by putting your own unique spin on it. You do not need a sewing machine for this introductory class.
First, you will download the free class template, then you will learn how to trace the template onto paperbacked fusible web. Next, you'll pull fabrics using the color palette of your choice. Once you apply your appliqué shapes to fabric, you'll cut them out, arrangement them and then permanently fuse them onto a background fabric to complete your appliqué pattern. To continue working on your block beyond the course, you'll be given tips for adding borders, and you can also purchase the "optional" pattern that will help you make your appliqué block into a full sized mini-quilt that you can hang on your wall.
This on-demand class was pre-recorded from a live virtual workshop and has been added to this course website so that anyone can join in on the fun at anytime. Although the live session has ended, you can still enjoy the energy and experience of a live workshop as the teacher interacts with participants during this class. It will make you feel like you were there in live time!
This introductory course is perfect for the beginner quilter as well as the intermediate/advanced quilter looking to add some new tricks and techniques to your tool-kit.

What materials and supplies will I need?
This is a "no sew" workshop, so you do not need a sewing machine for this one. But you will need to be able to print out the class template, Sharp scissors, A Sharpie, Double sided paperbacked fusible web, Sewing pins, Light box or light from a window, and Fabrics. If you would like to continue working on it beyond the course, you will need to have a sewing machine, threads, iron-on tear away stabilizer and batting - but this is only needed beyond this course.
How long do I have access to the course?
Once you've enrolled and paid, you'll have access to the course material for at least a year. So devour it all in one weekend or take things slow. It's your choice!
