Fashion for Profit Academy Course: Overview of a Business Plan

Are you ready to start YOUR OWN business? This course will guide you through the beginning stages of a business plan, giving you an overview of the critical parts that must be understood in order to survive past the start-up phase.

(Please note, we DO NOT guarantee that you will be able to secure funding).

This is our first course  from the new Fashion for Profit Academy. These courses are based upon the book, Fashion for Profit written by Frances Harder.

Frances Harder is an entrepreneur and educator, who was a full time Assoc. Professor at Otis College of Art and Design in Los  Angeles. prior to self-publishing Fashion for Profit and co-founding the Fashion Business Incorporated (FBI). Frances saw a need in the fashion community and developed FBI in 1998 to provide vital business  development, resources and education to creative designer/manufacturers, who lack the critical business skills to become successful in today's competitive environment. Frances has extensive international design and teaching experience.  She also has had her name under license in Japan.  Frances is a partner in California Style Group. The group provides  international consulting on branding, licensing and product development. Fashion for Profit is an extensive text book that covers the nuts to bolts of starting an apparel company; from licenses, financing, production, costing, sales representation and finally to opening a retail store. Frances's book is used and sold internationally. She has recently produced a two-hour DVD to complement the information provided in her book. Frances studied art and majored in fashion design in England.

Why do I need a business plan?

You may be asking, "why do I need a business plan?"

Here are some words of wisdom from Frances Harder,

"Remember that no two businesses are alike and therefore no two business plans will be the same.  It is your road map to success!"

Things to think about from a business perspective:

•Mapping out a strategy for a successful business can be a difficult step - but it is a step that shows that the entrepreneur has done his or her homework.

•Business planning is about execution.

•It forces you to evaluate whether your product will satisfy a need and provide a guide for exactly how you will operate your company.

You need to create a business strategy!
