More About the Brave App
With the BRAVE APP (previously BeSafe Community) people who are using alone can connect virtually to a live supporter. The supporter will follow through with the caller's saved rescue plan if they become unresponsive. A rescue plan consists of the address, emergency contact and instructions that can contain any additional details the caller would like us to know (how to get in, where the naloxone is, any allergies etc). The rescue plans are saved in the app ONLY on the device, thus protecting anonymity. The only time a supporter will see the plan is if the caller becomes unresponsive.
Anonymity is the key for us at the BRAVE APP. Both callers and supporters remain anonymous. We want everyone to feel safe and we want callers to build trust in both our supporters and our system. Anonymity is a big part of that. We do not save your personal information on our servers. Any call information that does run through the servers is only retained for 7 days.
Our supporters have living, lived, shared and support experience with drugs and the overdose epidemic. We come from all walks of life but what we all have in common is the desire to help, to connect and to save lives. Our mandate is harm reduction and our support is completely caller lead. This means we follow the caller's rescue plan exactly as the caller has designed it. If our callers don't want 911 called, we don't call 911. It's that simple. If, however, they do want 911 called, Brave has partnered with RapidSOS and Northern911 to enable our supporters to get emergency services to our caller's location anywhere in Canada and the United States.

How long do I have access to the course?
Forever! Once you've enrolled, you'll have access to the course material for as long as you need. So devour it all in one weekend or take things slow. It's your choice!
After I finish the course, what's next.
Once you complete this online training, a Brave Tech team member will reach out to schedule a one on one call. During that call we will do a practice call using the app, we will also answer any questions that you have.
