Artistic development 101
strategies and techniques to develop your own creative voice
This online class begins Sunday June 4, 2017 and runs for 8 consecutive weeks
Creating original work not based on or influenced by another quilters style is essential to the artist who wants to develop their own unique voice and build a cohesive body of work. But for many quilters, knowing how to begin or where to start is a roadblock that is difficult to overcome. In this workshop, individual growth and artistic discovery is the primary goal and it’s designed to give you the tools, motivation and confidence that you need to overcome those roadblocks.
A few of the things we’ll cover over the course of our 8 weeks together:
- Strategies for using a sketchbook and how valuable it can be to your artistic process
- Inspiration: where to find it and how to use it
- The value of working in a series with a theme
- An exploration of the elements of art and design and how to use them in your work
- How to critique and evaluate your own work and how to use the results
- Dealing with artist block
- Artists statements: how to write about what you do and why
By the end of the 8 weeks students will have created several new pieces and begun a new series of work in their own unique style but they will also have a solid foundation of strategies and techniques to draw on as they continue their artistic journey.
How this online class works
Each week beginning on Sunday June 4, 2017 you will receive a notification when a new lesson for you to review that will include an assignment for you to work on. The lessons will include pdf files or video and some may contain both. This online learning platform has plenty of space for you to post photos and questions on each of the lessons and just like in an person classroom you’ll be able to interact with your fellow students and of course with me.
This workshop is very comprehensive and we'll be covering a lot of material but we'll take it one week at a time and by the end of it I'm confident that you'll have a solid foundation of techniques and strategies that you will be able to use successfully as you make your way forward on your creative journey.
