Here is a very sweet quilt that is perfect for Valentine's Day! It contains 16 squares, 17" (finished) each, and each square has a different font of either the letter "O" or "X", hence the name, "Hugs and Kisses". It assembles fast, and you can use fusing or applique to attach the letters to their backgrounds. Complete instructions are included, with PDFs of each letter to be printed on 11" by 17" paper for you to use as a template. You can make a configuration of 4 squares, 9 squares, or the compete set of 16 for a finished size of 68-1/2" by 68-1/2". You could add a border, but I finished mine without one.

Supplies needed:

  1. 16 different fabrics for the block backgrounds, in a variety of prints and values, to be cut into 17-1/2" squares, in your favorite Valentine colors
  2. 16 different fabrics for the letters "X" and "O". 12" by 12" pieces of fabric will be big enough for each one, some are as small as 8-3/4" by 8-3/4"
  3. Fusible web, the lighter works best. It comes in different widths, but at a width of 18" you will need approx. 4 yards
  4. Batting: 74" by 74"
  5. Backing: 4 yards (or piece it to save fabric, you'll need to end up with 74" by 74")
  6. Binding 1/2 yard
