CEED - Cultural Emergence Effective Design

Welcome to the CEED Course 2021

The CEED (Cultural Emergence Effective Design) course is an adventure into manifesting our goals and visions with Looby Macnamara and Jon Young.  You are guided to make a design for yourself using the Design Web (created by Looby) for any area of your life you wish to enhance.
This training will give you the confidence and skills to design any aspect of your life. You will gain design skills and tools ready to take forward and do more designs.

There will be 2 phases to this course. The pre-design reflective phase and then the active design phase.

The reflective phase will be a deep reflective process called the Renewal of Creative Path which will prepare the ground for effective design.

Essential information

From November you will have access to a reflective process called Renewal of Creative Path to support your preparations for your design in a gentle way of the winter months (here in the Northern hemisphere).

We will then move into the active design phase starting 17th January 2022.

Duration: reflective phase - from when you enroll until Jan, then active design phase for 7 weeks from 17th January until 6th March 2022

Video and audio lessons, participant comment forum, 3 live group calls, 3 live smaller group tutorials

Costs: sliding scale from £95-350 with some bursary places available (see below for full details)

Lead facilitators:
Looby Macnamara and Jon Young

Kate Gathercole, Regina Paul, Delvin Solkinson, Tonie Bjoerneskov, Barbara Scheltus, Bernard Joseph and Lee Reidl.

All group calls will be recorded if you can't make it. The course material will be available for 3 months after the end of the course.

Types of designs you can do

There are all sorts of design opportunities around us to choose from. Some people choose something quite contained such as organising an area in the homes, clearing their garage, planning a birthday party or holiday. Other times people choose something bigger, such as moving home or changing job, starting a business, healing a relationship, finding your life purpose, planning the next year, motivating yourself for a creative project. Often we find interconnections in our lives and there are non-linear outcomes.

Whatever you choose using the Design Web as a framework supports us to move with intention and clarity to create flexible, motivating designs for an aspect of our lives. The design you create becomes a 'CEED' that you can grow and cultivate beyond the course. You can go away and create more designs for yourself.

  • The Cultural Emergence design process is so effective. I have gained so much insight from my design around well-being and am feeling more empowered and 'freed up'.

  • During my design process I felt the magic of creativity flowing, a constant calm and confidence, the will and constancy to finish a design in a much shorter time than before. I felt really supported and nourished by Looby, Jon, the rest of the team and participants, as well as by the principles and core routines, which I will keep on using for support, inspiration and momentum.

There are 3 modules for Cultural Emergence. I am a great believer in non-linear learning so these modules can be taken in any order. It is useful to have done the taster course to give an understanding of the premises of Cultural Emergence. This is a short course that can be taken alongside the CEED course. The CEED course develops our design skills needed for the MOVE & INVIGORATE phase of Cultural Emergence.

  • "The magical part of my first experience of using this Design Web process has been the inspiration and the dialogue created from this. I love to talk, but this was discussion for a positive purpose and it's not only moved me forward, but also those around me. I'm so grateful to everyone on this CEED course who I have been fortunate enough to share space with. Thank you, it's impossible to measure how much I have learned over the course! "

    — Tallulah Tay

Benefits of using the Cultural Emergence Design Web

During the CEED course we will learn how to integrate the principles and practices of Cultural Emergence to create an active practice of design in our day to day lives. This design system supports us to become more intentional in enhancing our own well-being and making our relationships kinder, more connected and truly regenerative.

A culture of participation and exchange

We are keen to make this course accessible to people, and acknowledge that this is a challenging time for many people, and even without COVID there are many inequalities globally and with different demographics. And we also know that there are people out there who have a healthy financial flow and can direct some of that towards the work we are doing and to support others to be on this course. An in person course would normally cost hundreds of pounds, but we can offer it for less because we don't have venue and food costs. We are keen for people to join who are committed to engaging with the course, and creating a design for themselves.

We are therefore offering a sliding scale, please choose whatever sits well within your financial means (you can also choose increments within these suggestions).

£95-150 supported by the community rate

    £150-225 standard rate

£225-350 Community supporter rate (supporting exchange places) - for those feeling able and willing to give extra support (with this extra money we can offer more exchange places and support the facilitators).

We are offering 50% of the CEED course as Exchange Places. We want to offer those who need it a free place, in exchange for their ideas, designs and enthusiasm that they can share with the group and beyond with their friends and networks. Particularly for those in majority world countries, youth, single parents, refugees, those on Universal Credit or equivalent government support and anyone else who is really keen to engage but struggling at the moment. Please reach out to Emma if you would like to join on an exchange place -
