Autumn 2021 Activating Cultural Emergence with Looby Macnamara

Discover this profoundly effective toolkit for positive change. During the course you will deepen your understanding of culture and how to influence it, including your own personal culture. I will be sharing tools to enhance your personal patterns of thinking, behaving and interacting. Woven into this we will begin to learn how to sense systems and engage with emergence, that will bring a new way of seeing the world. There will be practical activities to bring this toolkit alive in your own lives, and a comments forum to share stories and insights and engage in a culture of collective wisdom and learning.

The course material is available now, and each week for 5 weeks from 13th Sept you will receive the new lessons. The course material includes videos and activities from Looby Macnamara. There will be 2 group calls with Looby & Jon Young on 23rd Sept and 7th Oct at 6-8pm UK time, 7-9pm CET, 10am-12pm Pacific time (find out when that is in your timezone here

You will have access to all the material until the end of the year so you can dip in and out as you wish and work at your own pace.

The Cultural Emergence toolkit

Humanity is presently in a crisis of disconnection and a time of mass cultural emergency; we believe that many personal, social, political and environmental problems stem from a lack of cultural understanding and cohesion. We believe there are tools that can help turn this around into mass Cultural Emergence; where abundance, gratitude, care and connection are part of our everyday culture.

Cultural Emergence is a toolkit for expanding our positive impact in the world. Cultural Emergence uses conscious design and action to help us manifest our ideal scene, for ourselves and the world. The toolkit is designed to support us to be proactive and facilitate visionary responses to our global crises, starting with our own personal lives.

The toolkit is an evolution of my pioneering work with People and Permaculture and 7 Ways to Think Differently. It has emerged over the last few years through the collaboration, distillation and synthesis of my revolutionary work in the arenas of personal and social permaculture and Jon Young's inspirational expertise in deep nature connection and village building. We have been collaborating with other visionaries and leaders around the world to bring together the most profoundly effective toolkit. In late 2020 I published my latest book Cultural Emergence.

The Activating Cultural Emergence course is one of 3 modules to learn the toolkit and gain a deeper understanding of how to use it to initiate change in our own lives. To find out more about the book and other courses see the new Cultural Emergence website go to https://www.cultural-emergence.com

  • I found the Cultural Emergence course to be enjoyable and insightful. My awareness of unseen aspects of culture, privilege and my own personal culture was deepened. The course has been relevant to my work in regenerative agriculture and enhanced my coaching skills to use within the organisations I work in and the farmers I work with and in allowing for the possibility of the seemingly impossible to emerge. I love the practical emphasis on moving the tools.

How the course works

Each week for 6 weeks you will receive 3 new lessons. These lessons will have videos and text from Looby. With each lesson comes activities and questions for you to bring the learning alive in your life. There is also the chance to share insights with other course participants in the comments. The comments will also be responded to by Looby and her team of trained facilitators.

The lessons will be available for you to revisit and deepen your learning up until the end of the year.

Discover tools to enhance your everyday life

  • "This course is very rich and extremely accessible. I especially appreciate the lessons of observation, and then when one is ready to engage, to be open to the possibility and mystery of emergence.

The structure and content of the course are engaging and the Looby and her collaborators are helpful and encouraging."

    — Beth, USA
  • Activating Cultural Emergence is an excellent introduction to the ideas, concepts and practices informing this field. From an exploration of what is culture (micro and macro), systems thinking, pattern observation and types of emergence Looby’s videos, exercises and feedback provide an inspirational solid grounding to create cultural emergence for broader social change. The format and pacing of course allows a chance for personal connections to the principles and practices to deeply enrich one’s ability to take further action.

About Looby

I am a highly experienced facilitator, designer and author. I have  been involved in permaculture since 1999, and has been teaching since 2003. I am author of People and Permaculture, 7 Ways to Think Differently and Strands of Infinity. People and Permaculture was the first book internationally to translate the principles and design of permaculture into people based systems, widening the definition of permaculture and making it relevant to everyone.

I live on a 20 acre smallholding in the UK, where she runs a training and demonstration centre - Applewood Permaculture Centre, with her partner.

I have been researching and developing the Cultural Emergence toolkit over the last 4 years and released her latest book Cultural Emergence in late 2020.

I am intrigued to discover the depth of connection and learning that can be achieved with online courses.

  • Thank you so much for this course, Looby! I'm enjoying starting to integrate this learning into my everyday and look forward to learning more about Cultural Emergence in future. A really valuable course that has articulated so much for me and offered so many new methods and ideas to try out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have access to the course?

The course will remain online until the end of 2021. You will have access to all of the lessons to revisit and deepen your learning as often as you wish.

Is an online course right for me?

Online courses are different obviously from face to face courses, and that isn't to say one is better than the other. The online format allows for more immediate observation and integration into your own life, and gives more time for reflection. Through the comments you can connect with other course participants and share insights. And obviously the online format means you don't need to travel, arrange childcare or take time off work. And after doing this course online, you might want to take other opportunities to come and learn face to face with me.

I still have a question, how can I contact you?

I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. Send an email at Applewoodcourses@yahoo.com
